Robert Martin "Marty" Schlosser Obituary

Obituary of Robert “Marty” Schlosser

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Martin “Marty” Schlosser, who died on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Kingston General Hospital after a courageous battle with bladder cancer, surrounded by family.

Born in Biggar, Saskatchewan, in 1951, Marty lived a life marked by service, adventure, craftsmanship, and profound love for family and community.  He proudly served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as an Air Weapons Controller, a role that shaped much of his early life and brought him to communities across North America.  Over the years he made his home in North Bay, Ontario; St. Margaret’s, New Brunswick; Moisie, Quebec; Rome, New York; Toronto; Oklahoma City; Ottawa; and finally, to Kingston, Ontario forming lasting connections in each place.

Marty was deeply committed to mentorship and the outdoors.  As a Boy Scout leader, he inspired countless young people with his enthusiasm for nature and his love of canoe camping, a passion he carried throughout his life.  He put his navigational skills to use as a geocacher all around the world, hiding caches and finding friends along the way.  Above all his many talents, he was a gifted woodworker and a respected leader in the woodworking community, known for his artistry, patience, and willingness to share his knowledge.

He is survived by his wife Marilynn, his partner in travel adventures and geocaching expeditions.  He is lovingly remembered by his children, Deanna (Kevin) and Andrew (Katherine) from his first wife Karen, and grandchildren NathanAdam, and Jane.  He is warmly remembered by Marilynn’s children JenniferStephaniePatrick, and Cheryl, all of whom he cared for deeply as part of their blended family.

He was predeceased by his brother Jeff and is survived by his siblings Derek (Cathy)Bernadette (Tom), and Debbie (John), along with their children and grandchildren.

Marty will be remembered for his steady presence, his generosity of spirit, his craftsmanship, and his ability to bring people together.  His strength, humour, and kindness will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in his memory.
